Our Core Services
Benchmarking
Benchmarking involves a calculation using the utility data, building size, and building uses to determine an overall “miles-per-gallon” type efficiency rating for the building. This figure, known as “Energy Intensity” (expressed in kBTU/sf/yr), is a very useful preliminary analysis tool because it helps determine the potential for energy savings. Since data is available for different types of buildings in our region, the calculated Energy Intensity is compared to buildings of similar use to see how efficient your facility is.
Building Performance Analysis for Commercial Buildings & Facilities
Commercial Building services are available for Multi-Family Residential, Retail, Office, Warehouse, Factory, Theater, and more. In addition to the Benchmarking process described above, a Building Performance Analysis consists of a complete building evaluation that includes insulation, windows, doors, lighting, appliances, heating, cooling, ventilation, refrigeration, and any other energy-using equipment. We also evaluate the occupancy and use patterns of the facility to determine savings potential from occupant behavior modification. An analysis of water usage is also included as a standard part of the audit. The types of building diagnostics and resources that we use will be tailored to your facility, including infrared analysis and blower door testing. After the initial building walk through, we will model your facility using energy analysis software. Then, a full report will be provided to you that describes various recommended energy and water conservation measures. The report will include a ranked list of low cost - high return energy improvements, and expected return on investment (ROI). The report will be presented in a follow-up consultation to explain the results and answer any further questions you might have.
Building Performance and Sustainability Analysis
In addition to the Performance Analysis described above, a Sustainability Analysis involves a site assessment to determine indoor air quality, storm water management strategies, and sustainable landscape recommendations, as well as determining green material options and waste reduction strategies. An indoor environmental quality assessment is done to determine daylighting potential, proper ventilation, and mitigation of pollutants. Again, the strategy for the assessment will be tailored to your facility.
Additional Services
Renewable Energy Assessment
A renewable energy assessment involves a site assessment to determine renewable energy potential. It is used to determine appropriate renewable energy capture and production strategies for the specific site, including passive solar techniques, geothermal heating, solar domestic hot water, active and passive solar space heating, wind and micro-hydro. A report including a cost/benefit analysis of renewable energy opportunities will be provided.
Commissioning, Measurement and Verification
For large-scale projects, commissioning, measurement and verification of energy and water efficiency improvements is essential to determine that the project is performing as expected. Commissioning is a process of documenting and verifying that systems are performing to expected standards. Benefits include reduced energy use, improved productivity, lower operating costs, and reduced contractor call-backs. Measurement and Verification processes track actual performance, verifying the predicted energy savings from the initial analysis.
