Residential Audit Services:
Charting Your Path To A Home That Makes Energy $ense
Do you ever wonder why your utility bills are so high and what you can possibly do about it?
Residential audit services performed by CEC's professional energy auditors offer a standardized evaluation of a new or existing home's energy efficiency and resulting energy costs. Audit services help to get the most value out of the biggest single investment most homeowners are likely to make in their entire lifetime. Implemented recommendations can lead to greater comfort, lower utility bills, and increased real estate value.
Our Core Services
Energy Inspection for Apartments & Homes
An energy inspection of an apartment or home includes evaluating windows and doors, lighting and appliances, heating and cooling equipment, and air leakage sites. We also discuss the occupant’s habits and patterns of use that affect energy and make specific suggestions for improvements. An energy report card will be provided at the completion of the inspection that makes specific recommendations for energy improvements.
Comprehensive Home Energy Audit
An energy audit consists of a complete home evaluation that includes building insulation, windows and doors, lighting and appliances, and heating and cooling equipment. A blower door test is conducted as well to measure air leakage and to help identify leakage paths. After the audit, we will model your home using energy analysis software. Water efficiency measures are also analyzed as a standard part of the audit. Then, a full report will be provided to you as well as a follow-up phone consultation to explain the results and answer any further questions you might have. The report will include do-it-yourself quick fixes, a ranked list of energy improvements, and expected return on investment (ROI).
Comprehensive Home Energy Audit with HERS Rating & Infrared Scan
In addition to the Comprehensive Home Energy Audit described above, an infrared scan provides visual detection of air leakage paths and deficiencies in insulation. An infrared scan improves the accuracy and detail of a standard home energy audit and is highly recommended.
A Home Energy Rating (HERS) provides a standard measurement of a home's energy efficiency. This provides a homeowner with the baseline of the home before energy improvements are made.
A follow-up Home Energy Rating is recommended after improvements are made to the home.
A home buyer can use home energy ratings to easily compare the energy performance of the homes being considered. Home owners/home buyers may qualify for Energy Efficient Mortgages (EEM) or Energy Improvement Mortgages (EIM) based on a home’s energy efficiency rating. Visit energystar.gov to learn to learn more about these mortgages.
Comprehensive Energy and Sustainability Analysis
In addition to the Comprehensive Home Energy Audit described above, a Sustainability Analysis involves a site assessment to determine indoor air quality, storm water management strategies, and sustainable landscape recommendations, as well as determining green material options and waste reduction strategies. An indoor environmental quality assessment is done to determine daylighting potential, proper ventilation, and mitigation of pollutants.

Additional Service Options
Renewable Energy Assessment
A renewable energy assessment involves a site assessment to determine renewable energy potential. It is used to determine appropriate renewable energy capture and production strategies for the specific site, including passive solar techniques, geothermal heating, solar domestic hot water, active and passive solar space heating, wind and micro-hydro. A report including a cost/benefit analysis of renewable energy opportunities will be provided.
Follow-up Combustion Safety & Energy Efficiency Verification
A follow-up combustion safety and energy efficiency verification consists of a follow-up blower door test to determine air leakage after recommended energy improvements have been implemented as well as to determine any pressure differentials that may cause combustion devices to backdraft, in turn leading to risk of carbon monoxide exposure or fire.
Follow-up Home Energy Rating
A Home Energy Rating (HERS) provides a standard measurement of a home's energy efficiency.
A Follow-up Home Energy Rating is recommended after improvements are made to the home to determine the impact of the renovations.
A home buyer can use home energy ratings to easily compare the energy performance of the homes being considered. Home owners/home buyers may qualify for Energy Efficient Mortgages (EEM) or Energy Improvement Mortgages (EIM) based on a home’s energy efficiency rating.
