Rebuild Ypsilanti

Rebuild Ypsilanti is part of Rebuild Michigan, a network of community partnerships, made up of local organizations and businesses, that save money by saving energy.  These voluntary partnerships, working with the State of Michigan Department of Energy, Labor, & Economic Growth's Energy Office, choose the best ways to improve the energy efficiency of commercial, government, and apartment buildings.  Rebuild supports them with business and technical tools and customized assistance.

To date, over 540 organizations across the State have become Rebuild partners.  Enrolled partners have pledged more than 100 million square feet to energy efficiency projects and to date have invested more than $69 million in efficiency projects, with first year savings totaling more than $9 million.

Resources Offered by Rebuild Ypsilanti

Rebuild Ypsilanti partners have access to a network of national, state, and local energy experts to assist them in their energy efficiency projects, as well as the following resources:

  • Technical Guides
  • Print and Electronic Publications
  • Financial Strategies for Energy Projects
  • National, Regional, and Local Workshops & Meetings
  • Key Program News
  • Free and Reduced Cost Energy Audits
  • Grant Writing Assistance

Rebuild Ypsilanti will assist each partner by listening to their individual needs within the guidelines of the program and then help them to achieve their Rebuild goals.

Direct Energy Savings

While this will vary significantly from building to building, savings of $0.50/sq. ft. have been found to be an achievable average.  For a 100,000 sq. ft. office building, this translates to an energy bill that is $50,000 below that of an average building and provides a significant hedge against price fluctuations and increases.

Kickoff Meeting

The Rebuild Ypsilanti Kickoff Meeting took place on Friday, January 9, 2009 at the Ypsilanti District Library (www.ypsilibrary.org). Drawing over 60 attendees and filling the meeting room to capacity, the kickoff meeting brought together business owners, residents, and clean energy enthusiasts from around the city! The meeting included information about the benefits of energy efficiency as well as financing options, grant opportunities, and tax incentives for implementing improvements.
