Give a Gift of Renewable Energy
In 2010, XSeed Energy will be installing a highly visible solar array in the Ann Arbor area, utilizing funding from our community members. Proceeds from financial incentives, additional donations, and sponsorships will be recycled back into a Solar Bank to fund ongoing solar installations. Our goal is to 'seed' community-owned renewable energy projects all over Ann Arbor.
Your donation or sponsorship will help make this project a reality. To learn more, or to make a donation, visit the XSeed Energy website.
CEC Provides Energy Audits for Ann Arbor's DDA
In 2008, the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority created the Downtown Energy Saving Grant Program to encourage a more sustainable downtown. Through this program, businesses are encouraged to apply for a free energy audit. Approved applicants receive an audit with a list of recommended energy saving measures and renewable energy opportunities with estimated installation costs, energy savings, and payback periods. to and up to $20,000 in matching funds to implement energy efficiency improvements as outlined in their audit.
As a recommended contractor, CEC will provide several downtown Ann Arbor businesses with this valuable service. For information about commercial and residential energy audits, contact CEC Project Manager Chris Petit.
Clean Transportation Education Project
CEC has recently teamed up with North Carolina State University's Clean Transportation Education Project (CTEP). An initiative partially funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, CTEP partners will provide 48 alternative fuel and advance vehicle technology workshops around the country.
CEC will act as the facilitating coordinator for all workshops held in the Midwest region, including Compressed Natural Gas and Hybrid Electric Vehicle workshops with Clean Fuels Ohio.
Additionally, CEC will host two half-day biofuel workshops in Ann Arbor, Michigan
that will feature subject area experts, industry partners, and regional
success story presentations as well as networking and informal
information exchange.
Stay tuned for date and registration information. For more information, contact CEC Project Manager Robyn Skodzinsky.

Energy Tips
Many of us dream of designing our own home. For those of us lucky enough to make this dream a reality, it's important to consider designing an energy efficient home using a whole house system approach. Energy efficient designs include:
*Passive Solar. A home can be designed so the windows, walls, and floors can collect, store, and distribute solar energy in the form of heat in the winter and reject solar heat in the summer.
*Straw Bale. While some building codes reject straw bale construction, enthusiasts maintain that compressed blocks of straw provide excellent thermal and acoustic insulation.
*Zero Energy. Using state-of- the-art techniques, zero energy homes use - just that! - zero energy.
