Rebuild Ypsilanti "Energizes" Locals

Since initiating Rebuild Ypsilanti, a network of community partnerships designed to save money by saving energy, great interest has poured in from the commercial building sector.  Building owners and tenants are greatly interested in reducing their operating costs - as much as $.50 per square foot - by implementing energy efficiency improvements. CEC has been in contact with owners and tenants of restaurants, cafés, offices, apartment buildings, and more. The initial energy audits will begin in early 2009.

If you are interested in the services and connections provided by Rebuild Ypsilanti, please attend the Kickoff Meeting, held from 10AM - 12PM on Friday, January 9, 2009 at the Ypsilanti District Library (5577 Whittaker Road, Ypsilanti, MI 48197, 734.482.4110, www.ypsilibrary.org). This Kickoff Meeting will include information about the benefits of energy efficiency as well as financing options, grant opportunities, and tax incentives for implementing improvements. (An RSVP is required, as space is limited.)

To RSVP for the Kickoff or for more information about the program, contact: Greg Vendena, Project Manager, greg@cec-mi.org or 888.818.0987 x 702.

Dedicated Service: David Miller

In December, the CEC Board of Directors says goodbye to Dave Miller, Executive Director of University of Michigan Parking & Transportation Services, who is leaving the board after three years of dedicated service.  Dave has been with CEC as its Board Secretary from the very beginning.  Dave was a member of CEC’s start up board of directors, which also included David Konkle (former Energy Coordinator of the City of Ann Arbor), Andy Smith (former Energy Coordinator of Washtenaw County), Mel Drumm (Executive Director of the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum), and Sean Reed (CEC’s Executive Director).

Thanks to Dave and the other members of this great team, CEC has been able to grow and flourish.  We will miss seeing Dave at our Board meetings as well as receiving his incredibly detailed, accurate, and prompt minutes.  Thank you so much Dave for your belief and support of our mission in a crucial time of our development!

CEC Board Officer Elections &
Welcome, Keith Johnson

At its December Board Meeting, CEC elected its 2009 Board officers.  Elected officers included: J.D. Lindeberg as Chair for his 3rd term, Claudia Rast as Vice-Chair for her 2nd term, Kathy Carmody as Treasurer for her 3rd term, and Keith Johnson as Board Secretary. Keith is new to the board and has the distinction of not only being elected to the board, but securing the coveted Secretary position in the same night – a dufecta!

For his day job (i.e. when he is not CEC Board Secretary or working as a volunteer for the Medical Examiner’s office), Keith is General Manager of the University of Michigan’s Fleet and Garage operations overseeing the University’s vehicle fleet of over 1,000 vehicles as well as numerous alternative transportation projects and programs.
Welcome, Keith!

Reduce Your Utility Bills With a Home Energy Audit - Rebates Available!

Air leakage is one of the main causes of unnecessarily high energy bills. Help find those leaks with an energy audit performed by Clean Energy Coalition!  Though results may vary, we recently performed an audit and estimated that the homeowner could save $300 per year by reducing air infiltration.  To accurately measure and identify major sources of air leakage, we utilize a blower door test.

If you qualify for a rebate with MichCon, a home energy audit costs only $50! To qualify for this rebate, you must be an existing customer of MichCon, live in a house built prior to December 31, 1999, and follow through with some of our recommendations. For more information, visit DTE Energy's website.
