The project is designed to reduce energy costs by assisting in energy efficiency improvements for commercial buildings within the Ypsilanti community. This year, Michigan's demand for natural gas is expected to increase by 8.1%. Ypsilanti has over 1,000 businesses and the quickest increase in natural gas demand is anticipated for the business district. Reducing energy costs will free up vital assets and allow business owners to allocate more funding into developing their business or investing in the local community. | Newsletter Sponsor

CEC's Executive Director, Sean Reed, explained why the project is a great fit for Clean Energy Coalition: "CEC is based right here in Ypsilanti. We're extremely excited to work in partnership with other Ypsilanti businesses and organizations to advance energy efficiency practices that will benefit them financially both in the short and long term as they save energy and save money!" To get involved in Rebuild Ypsilanti, please contact Sean Reed at reed@cec-mi.org. E85 Incentive Program Expanded! The Department of Labor & Economic Growth (DLEG) recently awarded a $125,000 grant to the Clean Energy Coalition. The funds will allow CEC to offer incentives to public service stations and public fleet owners to convert fuel delivery systems for ethanol (E85) fuel. As DLEG Director Keith W. Cooley stated, "This grant demonstrates Michigan's ongoing commitment to be a national leader in developing the infrastructure to use clean, renewable, and Michigan-produced ethanol fuel to power our vehicles." Properly insulating your home can reduce your heating and cooling needs by up to 10%. The U.S. Department of Energy offers the following insulation tips: *Consider your regional climate, your home's design, and your budget when selecting insulation R-values. *Recessed lights are often a major source of heat loss. While insulating these fixtures can prevent some of this loss, it is important to be careful with how close you place insulation to a fixture - unless it's marked IC for direct insulation contact. Recommendations can be found through your local building codes. *Adding insulation to your attic can be relatively easy and cost effective. To find out if you have enough attic insulation, measure your insulation's thickness. If it is less than R-22 (seven inches of fiber glass or rock wool or six inches of cellulose), you should benefit from more. Michigan homes should aim for R-49 insulation in their attics. *When installing insulation, product instructions should always be followed. Also, make sure to wear the proper protective gear.
