With the aim of promoting energy efficiency and the use of renewable resources across the City of Ann Arbor, Clean Energy Coalition helped launch the a2energy program. The program’s goal is simple: show people why energy use matters and what they can do to make their homes or businesses more energy efficient.
At its foundation is a website, a2energy.org, that is a comprehensive source of energy-related information. Arranged to lead all visitors (whether homeowners, business owners, renters, or landlords) on a pathway toward increased energy efficiency, the site includes information on what actions make a difference, how to find trusted contractors to help out, and where to turn for financial assistance.
An important aspect of the program is providing a public face for the City’s Energy Office. Building on the bright, engaging graphics of the website and program branding, Clean Energy Coalition helped create outreach materials that would get people talking about energy. Appearances at events such as the Earth Day Festival, Mayor’s Green Fair, and Mission Zero Fest enabled members of the public to interact with energy experts and get firsthand advice on making wise energy decisions.
Other program components managed by Clean Energy Coalition include the a2energy contractor partner network, a clearinghouse for qualified contractors working locally on energy projects; the e-peeps section of a2energy.org, which contains testimonials from Ann Arborites who are seeing a wealth of benefits from reducing their energy usage; and the a2energy Twitter account.
