Clean Energy Coalition has partnered with Detroit-based NextEnergy to work on Detroit’s green economy initiatives, thanks to resources provided by the Kresge Foundation. The partnership aims to drive aggressive adoption of green technologies, practices and policies, with the goal of making Detroit a national model for the green transformation of older industrial cities.
The mission of the Green Economy Initiative is to enhance economic activity, create jobs and boost environmental quality, in addition to reducing operating costs and dramatically improving city services.
Clean Energy Communities brings its expertise working with local governments to the partnership and is working with Clean Energy Coalition’s Mobility and Structures divisions to provide technical assistance in the areas of green policy development, city building energy efficiency, municipal solid waste and recycling, purchasing, and city fleet optimization strategies. Clean Energy Communities will also offer program support for pilot projects, as well as regional leadership to convene and connect resources for working groups and community networks.
