Clean Cities Activity Continues in West Michigan
 |
|
West Michigan Clean Cities Counties |
West Michigan Clean Cities’ stakeholders can expect an exciting year ahead. Thanks to extended funding from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Clean Energy Coalition will continue its work to bring U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) designation to the 11-county area of Southwest Michigan. Over the course of nine months starting in January 2012, Clean Energy Coalition staff will hold multiple outreach and education events aimed at supporting efforts to reduce petroleum consumption and emissions in West Michigan’s transportation sector.
Clean Energy Coalition Project Manager Aaron Champion will serve as the West Michigan Clean Cities Coordinator. In this role he will actively meet with fleet managers and other stakeholders to find the most appropriate path toward designation for the area.
Participants can also expect to learn about best practices, incentives, and emerging trends in the alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technology industry. For those with more deliberate and active plans to deploy alternative fuel vehicles and technologies, the Clean Cities program provides technical support, which can often help stakeholders overcome specific obstacles and become familiar with operating and safety precautions for new vehicle technologies.
Clean Energy Coalition’s goal is to drive consensus among the West Michigan stakeholders to bring new clean vehicle projects to the area. Once the DOE designates the area as an official coalition, there will be a single voice to represent the area's interests. This is particularly valuable for small and mid-sized fleets that may not have the time or resources to “go it alone,” not to mention capture the interest of government officials and technology providers.
The first West Michigan Clean Cities stakeholder meeting will be held in Grand Rapids on March 22, 2012. A specific location will be announced at a later date. To learn more about the West Michigan Clean Cities Coalition, please contact Aaron Champion.
Clean Energy Coalition Launches New Retail Website

http:www.cleanenergyoutlet.org |
Clean Energy Coalition just launched http://www.cleanenergyoutlet.org, a website featuring a comprehensive range of energy-efficient products available for purchase. With an extensive inventory and user-friendly ordering system, the online Clean Energy Outlet makes it easy to save energy and money in homes or businesses.
“We’re excited to offer this one-stop shop for energy efficiency,” said Sean Reed, executive director of Clean Energy Coalition. “Whether it’s business owners, homeowners, renters or landlords, the people we talk to every day want to take action to reduce their energy use. The Clean Energy Outlet website makes this possible.”
Visitors to the online Clean Energy Outlet can search by item, brand or energy-related topic to find products that will help reduce energy use and reduce monthly utility bills. The website features a wide variety of products, and in-stock items usually ship within one business day to homes or offices across the United States and Canada.
Products available through the website include individual compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and light emitting diodes (LEDs) as well as LED holiday light sets. Caulking and weather-stripping material are available along with a link to a free download of an ENERGY STAR® Do-It-Yourself Guide to Sealing and Insulating. Also featured are energy monitors for individual devices or entire houses and water-related equipment ranging from faucet aerators to showerheads.
The Clean Energy Outlet website represents an evolution from a small storefront in Clean Energy Coalition’s former office in Ypsilanti that served local customers. While Clean Energy Coalition is in the process of building out a retail presence at its new office in Ann Arbor, the store’s online presence means that more customers can shop for energy items at any time of day.
“The Clean Energy Outlet enables people to make a change and see results,” said Reed. “The inventory and 24/7 access provided through our website are a great resource for customers.”
