Clean Energy Coalition Leads Climate Action
Clean Energy Coalition has teamed up with the City of Ann Arbor to develop a community-wide Climate Action Plan (CAP). Local governments throughout the country have developed CAPs to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and prepare for expected climate change impacts.
Ann Arbor’s CAP builds on a recently established goal to reduce community-wide GHG emissions by 8 percent from year 2000 levels by the year 2015. Through a city task force and community engagement process, Clean Energy Coalition will help facilitate the City’s adoption of long-term GHG emissions reduction targets and outline the specific strategies necessary to achieve both immediate and future reduction goals.
The Ann Arbor community will be engaged throughout the process of drafting the plan, including providing feedback on proposed emissions reduction measures. While an official long-term target for Ann Arbor has not been made, some community CAPs–like the one developed by Portland, Oregon–aim to reduce GHG emissions by 80 percent by the year 2050.

Auburn Hills, Mich.: It's Electrifying!
Adding to the long list of accomplishments from stakeholders of Clean Energy Coalition's Detroit Area Clean Cities program, the City of Auburn Hills adopted Michigan’s first electric vehicle ordinance. The ordinance will facilitate electric vehicle charging stations and applicable infrastructure planning. Approved by City Council in July, the ordinance encourages property owners to plan and install electric vehicle supply equipment, commonly referred to as charging stations, to support widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
"After you talk to Steve Cohen [Auburn Hills Community Development Director] for a few minutes, you know that Auburn Hills is absolutely committed to support electric vehicles," said Matt Sandstrom, Detroit Area Clean Cities coordinator and mobility division manager at Clean Energy Coalition. "Steve is determined to establish Auburn Hills as Michigan’s leader in electric vehicle community readiness as a way to support the automotive industry in Southeast Michigan." Auburn Hills is home to Chrysler Group, Magna E-Car and ALT-E, among other automotive companies making significant investments into electric drive technology.
